SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 33/132 Employees and society Sustainable development Energy, climate and resources Sustainable assortment The three pillars of the sustainability strategy of PENNY Romania Sustainable assortment As a multinational retailer, we are concerned with any aspect related to the assortment: the social standards of animal welfare in the supply chain - from harvest over production to logistics as well as, resources efficiency about the packaging of products. Energy, climate and resources Energy consumption and conservation of resources are considered essential to our goal of achieving carbon neutrality. We are aware of our impact, since we operate over a wide geographical area. Employees and society Over 5,000 employees, their families, friends and neighbors make up the communities around our stores and warehouses. We consider all our neighbors and wish themwell with us nearby. Governance and corporate responsibility are managed at the group level. We report annually to the REWE Group on our financial, social and environment related performance, but we pay close attention to the economic, social and environmental context of Romania in all our actions. Since 2008, we have established a sustainability management system that helped us take essential steps in approaching and integrating sustainability concepts at business level.We managed to identify all stakeholders directly or indirectly involved in the field of sustainability in our organization in the years that followed. In 2016, we worked closely with the REWE Group to define our first sustainability strategy based on four pillars, and in 2017, we created the first team dedicated to sustainability management for our operations in Romania. In 2019, sustainability became the mainstay of our code of conduct. The year 2020 brought a new perspective and spirit of action in our company, based on the economic, social and environmental strategic and operational challenges we all faced. Together with our colleagues from PENNY International, we conducted a detailed analysis at strategic and operational level and revised our sustainability strategy that is nowbasedon threemaindirections, with an implementation horizon up to 2030. The management teamwithin PENNYRomania aligned it with the Romanian market considering the development prospects, assuming as well issues such as social responsibility and environment protection. We take responsibility for humans, planet and environment.
