SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 57/132 Standards for the responsible treatment of livestock animals farmed for their meat As percentage, 100% of the meat we sell in our stores is of Romanian production for the following categories: pork, beef, chicken, duck, turkey or ostrich. REWE Group performs internal audits of all our suppliers and every time we ensure they own a certificate according to the IFS standard. Since 2017, we have made five fresh poultry meat products that are grown slowly in Romanian farms available to our customers (chicken, duck and turkey). We bring new items to our stores, improve our assortment and come up with new local brands on a constant basis. We mentioned our products from Meșterul Măcelar or Hanul Boieresc – just some of our focus areas when it comes to responsible treatment of farm animals. We always audit our suppliers according to specific internal standards. Integrating the Romanian farmer is very important for PENNY as it shortens tje supply chain. The challenge that PENNY embraces for the next three to four years, is the integration in the assortment of local products from farmers, but also ensuring the Romanian origin of the main ingredients used in private label products. Responsible treatment of farm animals Products of animal origin, such as meat, eggs or milk represent an important part of our current eating habits - animal husbandry is therefore an essential branch of agriculture. We are a company that promotes the responsible treatment of farm animals, and in this respect, we establish partnerships with suppliers who can prove that thay implemented the highest standards regarding animal welfare. We pay close attention to this aspect and we are concerned with the responsible treatment of farm animals. Our suppliers must prove compliance and implementation of the highest industry standards, since the beginning of the partnerships, this being a main selection criteria when choosing those we want to collaborate with.
