SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 81/132 Green energy In 2020, we aimed to improve and complete the projects started in previous years. With the passing of each year, we have been closer and closer to the acquisition of 100% of the electricity from certified green energy for our stores, warehouses and headquarters. We have exceeded the threshold of 40% green electricity since 2019, being closer and closer to the percentage of 100% that we aim to reach in 2022. Reducing the emissions generated by refrigerants The refrigeration systems are extremely important in the operations of every retailer and we are aware that their use contributes to increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions from refrigeration systems depend primarily on the refrigerants used. To reduce emissions, PENNY decided in advance to use environmentally friendly refrigerants. For the year 2022, we have proposed the 100% replacement of the R404a refrigerant, which contributes to global warming phenomenon, with more environmentally friendly ones, both in stores and in warehouses. • Low carbon emissions in-store (low GWP [7] refrigerants) • Reducing and avoiding freon leaks • Energy saving by closing the refrigerated display cases • Modernization of equipment • Online monitoring • Low storage carbon emissions (low GWP refrigerants) • Reducing and avoiding freon leakages • Energy saving through started construction works • Modernization of equipment Stores Warehouses PENNY - A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODEL | SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY | SUSTAINABLE ASSORTMENT | ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES | EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY | ABOUT THE REPORT | GRI INDEX 7 Global warming potential
