SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 83/132 Carbon footprint for each Scope [8] The degree of equipping of stores with heat pump heating systems Scope 1 Direct greenhouse gas emissions 30,568 tons CO 2 eq. Scope 2 Indirect emissions from electricity consumption 25,203 tons CO 2 eq. Scope 3 Other indirect emissions 10,422 tons CO 2 eq. Electricity consumption is the main source of greenhouse gas emissions. Refrigerants are the second largest source of emissions, followed by company vehicles. The share of emissions from space heating is relatively low, mainly because the emissions of electric heating systems are included in the category of electricity. Emissions from business travel are negligible. At the time of reporting, the data for 2020 have not yet been centralized at group level and we decided to present the values for 2019, and in the coming years we will highlight the annual trend. Calculating the carbon footprint for the company helps us: • to report GHG emissions; • to express environmental performance; • to develop carbon mitigation or reducing measures; • to evaluate the measures already implemented. Reduction of the use of fossil fuels for heating systems In 2020, we continued the program to replace the natural gas heating equipment with more efficient electrical equipment. The degree of replacement reached 91% of the total equipment, thus managing to reduce the amount of CO 2 emissions generated by the use of gas for heating by 47.72% compared to 2019, respectively by 73.83% compared to the reference year 2012. 2019 2020 86% 91% PENNY - A SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODEL | SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY | SUSTAINABLE ASSORTMENT | ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES | EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY | ABOUT THE REPORT | GRI INDEX 8 Scope 1: Direct greenhouse gas emissions come from sources that are owned or controlled by the company, for example, emissions from combustion in boilers, furnaces, vehicles, etc. Scope 2: Scope 2 accounts for greenhouse gas emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, heating and cooling of the space consumed by the company. Greenhouse gas emissions from electricity consumed are reported using amarket-based and location-based approach. Themarket-based approach uses information fromprimary energy sources to generate electricity fromthe electricity sales company, while the location-based approach takes into account the country's electricity grid mix and relevant electricity imports. Scope 3: It is an optional reporting category that allows the treatment of all other indirect emissions. The emissions targeted by Scope 3 are a consequence of the company's activities, but arise from sources that are not owned or controlled by the company. Indirect emissions from any type of energy used are taken into account here.
