Hygiene and food safety PENNY stores are a preferred shopping destination for millions of customers every day, who expect to find a fresh, high-quality product offering. Our stores are the interface for customer interaction. Therefore, hygiene and food safety measures are of particular importance to us. We conduct our business in compliance with food quality and safety standards, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and are in constant dialogue with customers, suppliers, employees and authorities. Both at the store level and in the warehouses that serve them, we have implemented, maintained, and continuously improved a food safety management system based on HACCP principles, documented in manuals that serve as a reference for our colleagues. All employees receive regular training on quality, hygiene and food safety measures. Compliance with legislation and internal company requirements is verified through regular, unannounced checks of all workplaces, ensuring a continuous process of evaluation and improvement. Product labeling Before putting any private label product on the market, the experts within the Quality Management department and suppliers work together to make the labeling information as clear, simple and easy to understand as possible. We pay particular attention to presenting information on nutritional characteristics as concisely as possible to allow consumers, including those on special diets, to make informed choices. Correct product labeling is the main channel for informing customers about the origin of ingredients and the composition of products, their nutritional value, their use and disposal. In this way, we ensure that quality standards and legal provisions are strictly adhered to for 100% of our products. Furthermore, for our private label, the specifications on the label include chemical and microbiological parameters and information on the packaging material. In 2022, 77 cases of non-compliance with laws and regulations on product information and labeling were recorded, resulting in fines. The incidents were reported by customers or authorities. In both cases, we checked the eligibility of the complaints and took appropriate action, whether it was to indicate the clear origin of certain ingredients in recipes or the exact geographical indication of certain wines.
