A higher level of plastic recycling, comparable to that of other materials, can only be achieved by improving the way plastics and plastic products are manufactured and designed. This also requires increased cooperation along the value chain: from industry to plastic producers and processors to public and private waste management companies. In particular, key players should work together to improve design and support innovation to facilitate the recycling of plastics and plastic products. The REWE Group is already working with packaging made from secondary raw materials: some of the plastic bottles for detergents and cleaning agents from REWE and PENNY are being converted step by step into packaging that consists of 100% recycled material.
