Low environmental impact packaging in the cosmetics and detergents categories Single-use plastics are commonly used for plastic packaging and include items intended to be used once before being discarded or recycled. These include, among others, containers for cosmetics and detergents. Greater recycling of plastics can bring significant environmental and economic benefits. A higher level of plastic recycling, comparable to that of other materials, can only be achieved by improving the way plastics and plastic products are manufactured and designed. This also requires increased cooperation along the value chain: from industry to plastic producers and processors to public and private waste management companies. In particular, key players should work together to improve design and support innovation to facilitate the recycling of plastics and plastic products. The REWE Group is already working with packaging made from secondary raw materials: some of the plastic bottles for detergents and cleaning agents from REWE and PENNY are being converted step by step into packaging that consists of 100% recycled material.
