Interventions in the operational area We maintain and further develop operational processes that contribute significantly to reducing negative environmental, social and economic impacts. As part of our strategy, for the Energy, climate and resources pillar, in the reporting year 2022 we have updated the material topics by integrating the topic previously referred to as "Energy efficiency" as part of "Climate protection". Thus, energy efficiency issues remain of particular importance to our work, but for clearer management of the topic it has been included in terms of the structure of the sustainability strategy under the umbrella of our climate protection efforts. Another reason for this change is that energy consumption accounts for the largest share of our carbon footprint. Thus, for the financial year 2022, we have defined four main areas of action: "Climate protection", "Resource conservation", "Logistics and mobility" and "Green buildings". The management of these areas remains the responsibility of the Energy, climate and resources Working Committee, which coincides with the Energy Management System. The Sustainability Manager, who also holds the role of Energy Manager according to ISO 50001 standards, is in charge of coordinating this operational committee. In addition to the employees on the operating committee and the Energy Manager, all PENNY employees also play an important role. Through their actions in the workplace, they can make a vital contribution to the success of the measures and suggest ideas for improvement that can make a difference. PENNY has therefore established a central email address for employees who have questions or want to make suggestions: green@penny.ro or they can use the dedicated employee app. In order to achieve our strategic ambitions and to bring added value to the environment, we continued in 2022 to implement specific measures, the most relevant of which are: z Continuing measures to reduce or even eliminate fluorinated gases in our operations (replacing refrigerants in stores and developing a strategy to replace the refrigeration system in our oldest warehouse) z Further pursuing the expansion of the photovoltaic network, including at the level of logistics centers z Improvement and use of the smart remote energy monitoring system z Extending the network of charging stations for electric cars z Continuous optimization of our operational processes to ensure energy efficiency and resource conservation, basing our decisions on quantitative studies and data SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2022 134/250 SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY ABOUT US AND OUR VALUE CHAIN THE FUTURE IS MADE TODAY SUSTAINABILITY HIGHLIGHTS MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTORS CONTENTS SUSTAINABILITY STEP BY STEP
