Andrei PANĂ Project Manager Maintenance Water consumption The water used at our sites is used for various administrative activities, mainly for domestic purposes, for sanitation. We use recirculated water whenever possible for watering green spaces. We do not use water for technological purposes or as part of any other specialized process. To protect the water discharged into the sewer, each PENNY store is equipped with decanters and grease and hydrocarbon separators, and the exclusive use of biodegradable cleaning agents ensures a high standard of water quality discharged into the public network. Water consumption 2021 2022 PROGRESs 2022 vs. 2021 Total water consumption (m3) 151 836 181 299 +19.40% Water consumption intensity (m3/m2) 0,66 0,72 +9.09% Average water consumption in stores (m3/store) 1,38 * 1,48 +7.25% Water management is an important aspect of the activities carried out in our stores, with a number of processes and equipment for which water consumption is a condition of operation. The Bake-off aisle is the largest water consumer, through the consumption of steam used in the ovens that bake products directly in the store. At the same time, the continuous sanitation process of the equipment requires a significant amount of water. Butchery and meat product processes are another large water-consuming category. Hygiene activities related to these processes require significant amounts of water to ensure high product safety standards. Thus, significant amounts of water are consumed in: handling and packaging of fresh meat and sausages, surface sanitation and personal hygiene of employees, thawing and quick defrosting. Among the most important measures we have implemented to reduce water consumption are: z installation of sensor-operated monobloc batteries in sanitary facilities z the use in outdoor green spaces of climatically adapted plants which require watering only in the first years until they reach maturity z the use of drip systems for newly landscaped green areas At the same time, we plan to improve the management of water data collection to improve the quality of the reports on which consumption reduction actions and measures are based. In the FY 2021 Sustainability Report, the average in-store water consumption (m3 / store) for 2021 was reported as 1.68 from a transposition error. Updating this value only influences the calculation of the evolution of this parameter in year 2022 compared to year 2021.
