Alina MIRON Leaflet Production & Distribution Manager Material consumption In our marketing and promotional activities, we focus on using recycled paper and environmentally friendly flyers and other environmentally friendly printed materials. In 2022, PENNY Romania's total national paper consumption was 4 500 tons, compared to 4 981 tons in 2021, giving a specific consumption of 17.86 kg/m2 in 2022 compared to 21.71 kg/m2 in the previous year. At the same time, in 2022 we have reduced by 9% (4.4 tons) the amount of physical leaflets distributed. At the same time, we have initiated measures to further reduce this quantity by developing the PENNY leaflet distribution service via the WhatsApp mobile app*. This means that our customers can subscribe for free to receive all our promotions and offers quickly and easily directly on their phone, thus helping to reduce paper consumption. In our retail business, 14% of our private label products have sustainable certified paper packaging. We are looking to further develop sustainable packaging for *For more information, please see https://www.penny.ro/whatsapp all our private label products and we are constantly working to develop this segment. At the same time, in order to optimize the use of secondary packaging, in 2022 we replaced manual stretch foil with automatic stretch foil, which allows us to reduce the consumption of this type of packaging by 28%. This foil is used in the palletizing processes, having a low thickness (4 microns) and a high degree of elongation, which allows the use of a smaller quantity than manual stretch foil. Because our product range is developed based on the needs and requirements of our customers, we market disposable products and materials that meet existing market demand. Thus, out of a total of 30 081 tons of disposable materials put on the market in 2022, approximately 43% were made from renewable sources.
