Adrian VÎRLAN Environmental Protection Principal Proper waste management In order to track the evolution of waste quantities in a way that allows us to assess performance against operational developments, we monitor specific waste quantities. Thus, we recorded a decrease of about 7% in the quantities of nonhazardous waste* generated per sales area. 2021 2022 PROGRESs 2022 vs. 2021 Quantity of non-hazardous waste generated per sales area (kg/m2 ) 141 132 - 6.38% *The following waste categories were taken into account in the calculation of the specific indicator for waste generation: cardboard, plastic, wood, metal packaging and household waste. We have not taken into account waste that is not generated as a result of recurring activities (e.g. waste generated from store refurbishment or infrastructure decommissioning, such as metal shelving), hazardous waste or other waste. The management of waste generated on our sites is carried out by our dedicated team within the Environmental Protection Division of the Logistics Department. We aim to reduce waste and focus on prevention and minimization projects that benefit both the environment and operational cost efficiency. In 2022, the recycling rate of waste generated on our sites reached 58%, exceeding the disposal rate of 42%. Thus, we diverted a total of 19 518 tons of waste from disposal, of which 1.96 tons was diverted to energy recovery.
