Monica COMAN Team Leader Marketing – Advertising Health for every community This year we have run a new project with Save the Children to develop and support screening caravans for pregnant women and women in disadvantaged rural areas. The project targeted around 2,500 vulnerable girls and women from disadvantaged rural areas in 3 countries in Romania: Constanța, Iași and Brașov. The initiative was born out of an analysis of the reality we face – one in ten newborns in Romania has a teenage mother, according to official statistics, and almost 30% of underage mothers (under 18) from the EU come from our country. In order to improve the health and social situation of pregnant women and vulnerable mothers in rural areas, PENNY together with Save the Children and the voluntary support of doctors from the Caravan with Doctors Association, initiated the Health Caravan for each community and set out to provide free consultations, harvests, ultrasounds and information sessions on pregnancy health and newborn care. PENNY customers were involved in supporting the project through the DINO loyalty campaign. Every toy purchased helped the Save the Children Caravan and provided access to education and essential health services to girls and women in disadvantaged rural areas. During 2022, three caravans were held in Negru Vodă (Constanța county), Mironeasa (Iași county) and Tarlungeni (Brașov county), where mothers, pregnant women, pregnant minors and children up to 5 years old could benefit from integrated services (medical, social, educational). Around 450 girls and mothers-tobe benefited from socio-medical support consisting of: access to health services, family planning and paediatric care. We will continue this project in 2023, with two more caravans in communities in Mureș and Timiș Counties. SROI – Social Return on Investment for PENNY projects This year we have submitted two social projects launched by PENNY to a specific study to analyse and evaluate the social impact created in the community. According to the Social Return of Investment Standard, two of our social projects were included in the analysis. The purpose of these analyses was to identify the return on investment in the community through the projects launched by PENNY. Supporting the health of girls and women in disadvantaged areas of Romania – Save the Children Romania During the course of the study, the following key findings were identified: 1 Euro invested by PENNY in Supporting the Health of Girls and Women in Disadvantaged Areas of Romania in 2022 generated 6.17 Euros of social, health and financial value to society.
