ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES 1 Climate protection Climate change is having an increasing impact on our lives, including PENNY Romania's operations. To mitigate our contribution, we aim to gradually increase the percentage of green energy purchased, use environmentally friendly refrigerants and replace fossil fuels used for heating systems. Energy efficiency is important from both a cost and environmental point of view. We are increasingly investing in alternative energy production, new efficient technology solutions and building energy-efficient stores. 2 Resource conservation We are all aware that resources are limited. That is why we regularly assess our material and water consumption and try to identify ways to reduce the waste generated by our activities. Also, when we build a new store, we try to compensate for habitat loss and preserve local biodiversity through green roof solutions. 3 Logistics and mobility Logistics is a sector with an environmental impact as all goods sold in our stores are transported by road. Optimizing routes and increasing the number of EURO 6 compliant vehicles is a constant concern for us. We are also investing in electric vehicle charging stations for our customers. 4 Green buildings By constructing buildings under sustainable concepts, we promote the efficiency of our stores in terms of energy and material use, as well as resources such as water, while reducing the building's impact on individual health and the environment through better design, construction, operation and maintenance. We have successfully introduced the green building concept through BREEAM certifications. This approach has become a commitment to support sustainable development, limit the use of natural resources and protect nature for future generations. EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY 1 Employee welfare Employees are the backbone of our day-to-day business. We focus our efforts on attracting ambitious, talented, high-performing people with a solid background in their field. We provide a safe, dynamic working environment and encourage development in the best direction for each employee within a flexible organizational structure that puts the employee at the center. We also integrate into our teams people over the age of 50 who are finding it increasingly difficult to integrate into the current job market in other fields of activity. 2 Social responsibility Like any large company, our responsibility to society goes beyond our core business. We are aware that through the NGOs with whom we have developed partnerships, we are able to give back to society a small part of the support we receive in return. In the future, we want to create a grant scheme whereby we fund projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals. 3 Education and awareness We want to support the communities in which we operate and that's why we contribute year after year to the implementation of programmes that support the development of children and young adults. Since 2017, we have been actively involved in supporting dual education in Romania and offer internship programs to young people who want to start a career in retail. 4 Local communities Together with our partners we are actively involved in promoting health, supporting vulnerable groups and we stand alongside local communities by supporting investments in infrastructure. 5 Food waste management Food waste is at the heart of our day-to-day concerns and we work hard to reduce the amount of food that goes to waste through effective stock planning in our stores and warehouses, in-store discount schemes, collaborations with regional food banks and by seeking to identify alternatives so that food no longer suitable for human consumption does not end up in landfill.
