SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 121/132 Habitat for Humanity In 2020, together with Habitat for Humanity, we inaugurated the community center in Buftea, a space that functions as an after-school and serves two schools in Flămânzeni and Buciumeni - disadvantaged neighborhoods in Buftea, where poverty, conflicts and difficult living conditions strongly affect development and children's education. The center has been open since 1 st of September 2020 and hosts 200 children from disadvantaged backgrounds. During the two years required for the construction of the community center (2019-2020), 250 PENNY volunteers participated in the activities on the site and were divided into four teams. Volunteers poured cement, cut tiles, finished the walls of the building and contributed to the successful completion of construction within the deadline. The activities of the community center will be managed by the Hercules Association, which has over 10 years of experience in educational projects with children from vulnerable families. Shoe box In 2020, we continued the ShoeBox initiative, with a tradition at PENNY for over 5 years, through which, together with 60 volunteers, we brought a touch of joy to children in vulnerable situations. This year, we chose to offer gifts to the beneficiaries of the Support for Everyone project, implemented by ADRA Romania. ADRA Romania, through the Support for Everyone project, addresses vulnerable families in order to improve living conditions, by providing personalized support according to specific needs, settling medical services, meeting basic needs, such as food, hygiene products, clothing and footwear.
