We strive to improve water efficiency and, for this purpose, the amount of water used at PENNY sites is monitored and reported on amonthly basis. As a result of the increase in the number of PENNY stores, last year we registered a higher water consumption than the previous one. Stricter rules of hygiene and cleanliness were imposed in 2020, which led to an increase in water consumption per unit area by 4.07%. Compared to the average consumption per store, a decrease of 2.59% can be identified. We continued our initiatives on: • Efficiency in water use for green spaces by using low-water plants; • Introduction of gray water irrigation systems for efficient water use and reduction of consumption; • The use of new technologies such as cutting- edge equipment, efficient both in terms of energy and water consumption in our stores. Wastewater is discharged into the sewerage systems of the localities where we operate, after passing through decanters and grease separators installed at each PENNY store. We continued to use only biodegradable cleaning agents to prevent contamination of wastewater. Reducing the impact on biodiversity All PENNY stores are built taking into account the authorizations in accordance with the regulations in force, obtained after conducting environmental studies or assessments. No significant effectsonbiodiversitywere identified during construction andwe took some actions to minimize our impact on the environment. In 2020, we opened a new store with a green roof in Valu lui Traian, Constanța County. Two other similar stores are in Agigea and Mangalia. Green roofs can mitigate the negative impact on the environment and offer biodiversity benefits, especially by attracting living things. We use locally adapted native or non-native species that attract or benefit local wildlife.
