SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2020 94/132 Maintenance regimes and essential safety measures at PENNY Continued application of good maintenance regimes for stores and logistics centers, as well as preventive maintenance, are imperative. Maintenance of heating, cooling or ventilation systems is carried out in accordance with recognized standards, and maintenance procedures are followed. It is important to note that in the buildings operated by PENNY, the HVAC operating systems are part of the essential safety measures and therefore they are necessary for their commissioning. Regularly scheduled maintenance of these systems, together with fire protection and other essential systems, is mandatory by law and complied with by PENNY. While installations may reduce operations and occupancy as the current pandemic evolves, these essential safety systems must continue to be maintained in accordance with applicable regulations. In the air conditioning systems used by PENNY, the air filters are automatically cleaned on a daily basis, and the surfaces of the cooling / heating units are cleaned and disinfected using approved methods and biocodal products. It was and is important to make sure that the air conditioning systems were set up correspondingly and that they are operating properly. These systems produce internal conditions with a relative humidity of 40 - 60% RH. Published research suggests that this range of humidity may have a positive impact on virus inactivation, human susceptibility to viruses, and cross- infection rates. In the context of a well-maintained HVAC system the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in a PENNY building is lowHowever, there are some actions that PENNY, together with its technical staff, is taking to further reduce the risk. These actions include: • Performing preventive maintenance activities of the cooling / heating systems according to existing standards; • Assuring that the cooling / heating systems are operating properly. We constantly check that the flow of clean air coming from the outside is ensured in order to comply with the legal norms in terms of clean air ratio required; • Regularly checking and generally cleaning the air conditioning system, but also the preventive maintenance inspection records, in order to assure that the cleaning and maintenance of the HVAC systems is done properly; • Replacing the air filters whenever necessary and clean and disinfect the cooling and heating elements, using approved methods and chemicals.
