Raport Sustenabilitate

IMPACT EXPLANATION Global warming has a negative impact on each of us, both at individual and at company level. From extreme events affecting our activity to the reduction in air quality which endangers our health, the negative effects of global warming should be a top priority for every business player and person. In this regard, climate protection is not only a moral obligation for PENNY Romania, but also a material aspect influencing the development and the continuity of our company. In 2017, we adhered to the climate goals of REWE Group and every year takes constant steps in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per square meter of sales area by 23% by 2022 as compared to the benchmark year 2012. In 2021, REWE Group has set new goals: it wishes to achieve climate neutrality by 2040. This shall apply to all countries in which the Group carries out its operations. As part of this goal, in the first stage, the total greenhouse gas emissions shall be reduced by 30% by 2030, by reference to the benchmark year 2019. In order to achieve this goal, we shall continue to take consistent measures in order to prevent or reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our operations. HOWWE MANAGE THE IMPACT Climate protection is closely related to energy efficiency and effective resource consumption, and this is why we are working towards an integrated approach of these topics. Thepeculiarityof thematerial aspect of climateprotection is the specific calculation and monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions, for which we take into account the following data: z electricity (purchased from energy suppliers and from the own production, in kWh); z area heating (natural gas, district heating or other fuel, in kWh) z own fleet and the external fleet used for the distribution of products from the logistics centres to the stores (distances/kilometres or fuel used, in litres) z business trips (kilometres by plane, train) z refrigerant agents (replaced quantity, in kg) Climate protection is a topic rooted in our sustainability strategy, and this allows us to develop specific plans and actions in this respect. Therefore, we ensure climate protection by implementing specific measures aimed at: z monitoring GHG emissions z reducing GHG emissions OUR IMPACT AND PERFORMANCE IN FIGURES Monitoring of GHG emissions In order to document the progress towards climate goals, the Group uses independent companies for monitoring and calculations. In 2021, data was centralised, and the carbon footprint results are highlighted according to the three scopes. Scope 1/Purpose 1 (direct emissions) Scope 2/Purpose 2 (indirect emissions) and Scope 3/Purpose 3 (indirect emissions) Raw data is gathered from each country and is consolidated at Group level. The data is then processed by specialized consultants, using specific methodologies which follow the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) and the ISO 14064 Standard. Specific conversion factors from international data bases are used for data analysis and conversion calculations. The input data for the calculation of the carbon footprint are: z electricity (purchased from energy suppliers and from the own production, in kWh) z area heating (natural gas, centralised heating or other fuel, in kWh) z rented vehicles (distances / kilometres or fuel used, in litres) z business trips (kilometres by rented cars, plane, train) z refrigerants (replaced quantity, in kg) Climate protection * GES – gaze cu efect de seră SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2021 100/168 CONTENT ABOUT PENNY SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY SUSTAINABILITY STEP BY STEP SUSTAINABLE ASSORTMENT ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY REPORT ASSURANCE GRI & SASB INDEX
