The total water consumption increased, a fact due to the development and expansion of the store network, while the increase in the specific water consumption at the site level is due to procedures for sanitizing the premises imposed by the company's requirements regarding the establishment of high protection and the security of the sites during the critical period in a pandemic context. Consumption of MATERIALS We seek to reduce the consumption of materials at our sites, and pay a special attention to paper consumption, regardless of whether it is related to administrative or marketing activities. Thus, the total paper consumption of PENNY at the national level in 2021 was 4 981 tons, compared to 4 461 tons in 2020. In order to have a correct image of this data, we monitor these consumptions in the context of the development of our store network. For 2021 we registered a specific paper consumption of 21.71 kg/m2 of sales area by reference to 21.16 kg/m2 in the previous year. Thus, the 3% increase registered is mainly due to the marketing activities consisting of the distribution of PENNY's weekly leaflet. On the other hand, following the implementation of the Paperless office programme, the internal paper consumption of the administrative office was reduced by 30%.
