Raport Sustenabilitate

The organization's impact on the community The quantification of the organization's impact on the community took into account the positive impact and the negative impact generated by all material topics on environmental and social factors, using as input data the rates given by stakeholders in the online questionnaire and the questionnaire dedicated to employees. The ten material aspects that fall into the groups related to the strategic pillars ”Energy, Climate and Resources” and ”Employees and society” have the biggest potential impacts on the environment and the community. Energy, Climate and Resources Energy Efficiency Energy efficiency is very important in terms of costs and environmental protection. We are investing more and more in the production of energy from alternative sources, efficient refrigeration solutions as well as the construction of energyefficiency stores. Climate protection Climate change has an increasing impact on all our society, including on PENNY's operations. To reduce our contribution, we aim to gradually increase the percentage of green energy purchased, use environmentally friendly refrigerants, and replace fossil fuels used for heating systems. Green Buildings By building sustainable buildings, we promote the efficiency of our stores in terms of the use of energy and materials, salt, and resources such as water, while reducing the impact of building on individual health and the environment through better design, construction, operation, and maintenance. We have successfully introduced the concept of green building through BREEAM certifications. This approach has become a commitment to supporting sustainable development, limiting the use of natural resources, and protecting nature for future generations. Conservation of resources We are all aware that our resources are limited. Therefore, we regularly evaluate the consumption of materials and water and try to identify ways to reduce the waste generated by our activities. In addition, when we build a new store, we try to compensate for habitat losses with solutions such as green roofs. Logistics and Mobility Logistics is a sector with an environmental impact because most of the goods sold in our stores are transported by land. Optimizing routes and increasing the proportion of EURO 6-compliant vehicles is a constant concern to us. We are also developing partnerships to facilitate access for PENNY customers who use electric cars at charging stations. Employees and Society Employees Employees are the central pillar of our day-to-day work. That is why we focus our efforts on attracting ambitious, talented people, capable of performance and with solid training in their field of activity. We ensure a safe and dynamic work environment and encourage development in the best direction for each employee, within a flexible organizational structure that focuses on the employee. We also try to integrate into our team people over the age of 50, who are finding it increasingly difficult to be accepted into the current labour market in other fields of activity. Social Responsibility Like any large company, our responsibility to society goes beyond our core business. We are aware that through the NGOs with which we have developed partnerships, we manage to give back to society a small part of the support that we receive in turn. In the future, we want to create a framework through which we can grant funding to projects that effectively contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals. Food waste management Food waste is at the center of our daily concerns and we strive to reduce the amount of food that can become waste, by implementing certain measures: planning the stocks in our stores and warehouses as efficiently as possible, offering discounts in the store, collaborations with food banks, trying to identify alternatives so that food that is no longer suitable for human consumption does not end up in landfills. Education and Awareness We want to support communities in which we operate, and therefore contribute year after year to the implementation of programs that support the development of children and young people. Since 2017 we have been actively participating in supporting dual education in Romania andwe offer internship programs to young people who want to start a career in retail. Local communities Together with our partners, we are actively involved in activities such as: promoting health, supporting disadvantaged people, supporting infrastructure investments.
