IMPACT ECONOMIC SOCIAL ENVIRONMENTAL Energy efficiency Our energy consumption can be very costly and, in most cases, this is reflected in the prices of the goods that we sell in our stores. Our main opportunity is to invest in clean energy, so that the energy prices will affect less our goods in the medium and long run. Due to the high energy consumption, our intensity is maybe higher compared to other companies, therefore we might contribute, unfortunately, to a higher energy price, but, by our action, we provide opportunities, by making available our renewable energy systems to the national network, thus offering a source of supply with green energy on the Romanian market. In our stores, we consume energy in order to heat and cool down the areas required for our operations. We intend to reduce energy and to also use RES (renewable energy sources) in order to reduce the CO2 footprint and to have a lower impact on the environment. Climate protection In the near future, we might be affected by the CO2 taxes which will place a burden on our company. Our effort is to identify clean opportunities for reducing CO2 emissions, so that our future taxes are low. The energy consumption creates GHG emissions which substantially contribute to climate changes and other negative effects that might adversely affect people and communities. Climate changes represent the main challenges of our times. We understand and set strategic goals and actions with a view to mitigating the impact of our organisation by developing programs/projects that will contribute to the target of reducing the global temperature by 1.5 degrees. Resource conservation We are aware that energy, water, fuel and other resources are valuable and very costly. Through our actions, we can contribute to the reduction of consumption and resource-related costs. The development of our society depends on the availability and quality of resources. We contribute to the conservation of the resources used in our activity by supporting the circular economy and reducing utility consumption. In this way we increase the availability of resources for the communities around us. The resources of the planet are not infinite. By using energy, water and placing packaged products on the markets, we contribute to a negative impact. However, we also take into consideration any opportunity that we identify in order to mitigate our impact and to consolidate the positive area contributing to a sustainable production and consumption in the medium and long run. Logistics and mobility Mobility and logistics are a material aspect impacting the economic factor of our company and collaborators. The optimisation of freight road transport triggers substantial savings. We contribute to job creation for our suppliers, but also by increasing the number of logistics employees. But, sometimes, our logistics and mobility can have a negative social impact (like noise distortion, nuisance, etc.). Fuel consumption and the generation of transportation-specific emissions bring a negative impact on the environment. By contrast, we strive to bring a positive impact on the environment by upgrading our fleet with low-consumption and low-emissions vehicles and installing chargers for the Low Emission Vehicles (LEV) near our stores. Green buildings Building design, construction and exploitation represent one of the most resource consuming segments at global level. We invest in the development of green buildings and we want to reduce the operation costs, we increase the asset value, we optimise the economic performance in the lifecycle, and, not lastly, we improve our employee productivity by providing modern and effective working environments. Besides the design and the construction of green buildings, the local communities are involved and affected by site planning and landscaping. During the exploitation period, the social benefits of green buildings are health improvement and comfort of customers and employees due to the improvement of air quality within the stores. Green buildings have a positive impact on environment throughout all stages of development and maturity of the building. Thus, the main environmental benefits during the design and construction phase are biodiversity protection and support and the conservation of resources by the use of sustainable materials. During the exploitation phase, the main advantages are the energy efficiency, the conservation of natural resources by reduction of consumption and the support of circular economy.
