Sustainability Report 2023

EXPLANATION OF THE IMPACT Global warming negatively affects both individuals and companies, through extreme phenomena and deterioration of air quality, which influences our activities and puts our health at risk. Climate protection must be a priority for all, not just a moral obligation. Energy consumption in our activity is the main factor influencing our direct emissions into the atmosphere. Effectively managing this consumption, which is essential in operational processes from refrigeration and lighting to the operation of IT systems, can reduce operational costs while protecting the climate and the environment. HOW WE CONTROL THE IMPACT We constantly monitor the energy consumption and emissions resulting from our work, using tools and methodologies such as the Global Emissions Model for Integrated Systems (GEMIS), which calculates GHG emissions, resource use and life cycle costs for various fuel chains. To efficiently manage energy consumption, we implement and develop our energy management system according to ISO 50001, certified since 2017. This demonstrates our commitment to energy efficiency, implementing sustainable best practices and complying with relevant legislation. The premises for the development of objectives in the field of energy efficiency and the establishment of directions of action are established by our Energy Policy. The energy manager coordinates the specialized teams that ensure energy efficiency. It checks and analyzes consumption and makes recommendations to improve energy efficiency. OUR IMPACT AND PERFORMANCE IN FIGURES z Expansion of the network of photovoltaic panels in stores: 28 new systems installed at the end of the year and a total of 84 stores and 4 logistics centers with a total installation power of 9,656 kWp. z z 100% of our newly opened stores benefit from a new lighting concept that reduces electricity consumption by about 35% per year compared to a classic LED system z 100% of our stores are served by a new, more efficient energy consumption metering system, which involves data management in a portal dedicated to energy efficiency z 100% of our stores are equipped with doors to refrigerated display cases z 100% replacement of R404a refrigerant in our installations with a refrigerant with a lower global warming potential (GWP) z 5% reduction in GHG emissions intensity (kg CO₂eq/ m² sales area) compared to 2022 z 100% of our own stores are equipped with electric heat pumps z 100% of the energy used at charging stations is certified green energy z 23% reduction in electricity consumption (kWh/m² sales area) compared to 2019 CLIMATE PROTECTION SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2023 144/256 MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTORS SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY AND GOVERNANCE ABOUT US AND OUR VALUE CHAIN ABOUT THE REPORT THE FUTURE IS MADE TODAY SUSTAINABILITY MILESTONES CONTENTS
