Sustainability Report 2023

Photovoltaic panels Using one's own renewable energy generation capacities not only reduces the use of energy produced from fossil fuels, but also contributes to energy independence, which is particularly important in times of unprecedented energy price increases. Thus, we continued the expansion of the photovoltaic panel network, reaching 88 systems, serving 84 stores and all 4 logistics centers. In 2022 we became prosumers with 22 stores, and in 2023 we expanded to 29 stores, contributing a total of 333 159 MWh to the national grid in the reporting year, thus contributing to increasing the percentage of renewable energy available in the Romanian grid. Purchase of Green Electricity Since 2022, we have started using certified green energy for the electricity needs of stores, logistics centers, and headquarters, with the aim of minimizing negative impact on the climate and the environment, by reducing our carbon footprint and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As part of PENNY International's strategy for 2023, we have set ourselves the goal of 10% of the Group's total energy consumption to be green electricity, with certification of origin where feasible. Electricity from renewable sources with certificates of origin Electricity from renewable sources for leased spaces, according to the production of electric energy in Romania in the reporting year (hydroelectric, wind, biomass, solar, other renewables) PENNY Romania has contributed to this strategic target, ensuring that in 2023, 82% of the total energy consumption of PENNY stores, logistics centers and tenants is covered by certified green electricity and 6% by green electricity produced internally through photovoltaic panel systems. In addition, in 2023, REWE-owned stores and logistics centers used 106 104 374 kWh of certified green electricity (does not include electricity chosen by the owners of the leased premises or their own electricity production using photovoltaic panels). Photovoltaic energy (internally produced by photovoltaic panels and directly consumed by PENNY stores and logistics centers) 89% 6% 5% SUSTAINABILITY REPORT PENNY ROMANIA 2023 152/256 MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL DIRECTORS SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY AND GOVERNANCE ABOUT US AND OUR VALUE CHAIN ABOUT THE REPORT THE FUTURE IS MADE TODAY SUSTAINABILITY MILESTONES CONTENTS
