Sustainability Report 2023

Carbon Footprint To be able to develop specific climate protection measures and to be able to track performance in this area, every year we calculate our carbon footprint on Scope 1 (direct emissions), Scope 2 (indirect emissions) and Scope 3 (indirect emissions). We are aware that only science-based targets set by companies can have a substantial impact and support the transition to a low-carbon economy, helping to ensure that global warming does not exceed the 1.5 ºC threshold. In this regard, we have set ourselves the goal for 2030, to reduce tons of CO₂ emissions per year for all 3 areas of application – Scope 1, 2 and 3. This objective will be submitted for validation under the Science-Based Objectives Initiative (SBTi). The achievement of the set objectives is addressed by detailed planning of the measures and investments taken by us to enable energy efficiency, the transition to renewable energy sources, the phasing out of climate-high refrigerants and other aspects. We have kept the same methodology, through which we collect the raw data at the level of PENNY Romania, we transmit the information to the REWE Group, where these data are processed by external consultants who perform the calculation. At the level of the 2023 financial year, we kept the same calculation method for greenhouse gas emissions, following the GHG Protocol (Greenhouse Gas Protocol) standards and using conversion factors from international databases. As in previous years, we calculate the amount of indirect emissions using both the market-based method and the location-based method, and in this report, we present the results according to the market-based method. The input data used for these calculations are: z Electricity (purchased from electricity suppliers and from own production, in kWh) z Space heating (natural gas, district heating or other fuels, in kWh) z Rented vehicles (distances/kilometers or spent fuel, in liters) z Business trips (kilometers with rented cars, plane, train) z Refrigerants (quantity replaced, in kg) SUSTAINABILITY STEP BY STEP CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND BUSINESS SUSTAINABLE ASSORTMENT ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY GRI & SASB INDEX ASSURANCE OF SELECTED NON-FINANCIAL INDICATORS
