Sustainability Report 2023

Quantity of non-hazardous waste generated per sales area (kg/m²) 2022 2023 PROGRESS 2023 vs. 2022 132 133 + 0.8% In PENNY Romania’s operations, hazardous waste consists mainly of used electrical equipment, oils, car batteries and fluorescent tubes. These materials are treated with special attention and managed in accordance with current legislation, being collected by specialized companies for proper processing. With the aim of supporting education related to the circular economy and efficient waste management, we work together with specialized organizations and manufacturers to provide our customers with adequate facilities for the selective collection of different types of waste and encourage the collection of waste selectively directly from the source. Therefore, this year we continued the collection initiatives started in the previous year, including the campaign to recover consumed batteries, carried out in partnership with Ecotic BAT. The result was the collection of 8 tons of used batteries in 2023. We have thus promoted the selective collection and recycling of batteries, offering our customers a free AA battery for every 7 returned used batteries or 8 1.5V AA batteries for every kilogram of consumed batteries handed over. Our activity involves complying with the rules related to the extended responsibility of producers who place packaged products on the national market. In this context, we monitor the volume of packaging distributed by our company and ensure that it is recycled and recovered properly through two main methods: z working with an authorized organization that manages extended producer responsibility, to treat packaging that becomes waste outside our premises (primary packaging used for products intended for individual consumption by customers) z own actions, for the recycling of secondary and tertiary packaging, such as cardboard, plastic and wood, which become waste within our locations. As for the packaging placed on the market, there is a decrease in its intensity compared to 2022, by 12.40% Intensity of packaging placed on the market (reported to sales area) (kg/m²) 2022 2023 PROGRESS 2023 vs. 2022 117 102 - 12.40% Intensity of packaging placed on the market (reported to turnover) (tons / mil.
