Sustainability Report 2023

We continue to look for new alternatives for the recovery of food waste to reduce the environmental impact caused by disposal operations. Thus, if in 2021 and 2022 we collaborated with a single operator for the recovery of food waste, in 2023 we extended the collaboration to five authorized partners. At the same time, we managed to identify operators who can take over several types of waste from food that is not suitable for human consumption, including not only vegetable waste, but also animal waste. Thus, we collaborate with authorized operators to transform this waste into biogas through the anaerobic fermentation process, but at the same time we have also looked for other recovery methods such as transforming the materials into animal feed. Through these measures we want not only to reduce the impact on the environment, but also to support the circular economy in the food sector. In the last 3 years we have taken important steps in the development of our food waste management system, and we have made important changes to ensure an increase in the degree of recovery. Furthermore, through the development of the network of partners for food waste treatment, we reached 2 112 tons recovered in 2023. In 2023, we collaborated with four authorized operators to take over and treat this category of waste.
