Meal support program for disadvantaged children Partner: Casa Lidia Foundation Goal: Supporting social inclusion for disadvantaged groups Casa Lidia hosts and helps children and young people find a loving environment in which to grow. Our partnership with Casa Lidia Foundation began in 2018. Since then, we have been providing monthly financial support to the children in the care of the foundation and supporting its efforts by providing children with food from PENNY stores in Bucharest and Ilfov. In 2023 we provided monthly grants worth 600 Euros each. The objectives of the project are: z Improving the lives of orphaned or abandoned children, helping the elderly poor, and providing support to families in case of disasters (food, clothing, and medicine) z Emotional support for homeless children z Social reintegration of children from the foster care system z Reducing gender, racial, ethnic, and religious discrimination in contemporary society Financial assistance for food banks Partner: Federation of Food Banks in Romania Goal: To support access to food for disadvantaged communities In 2021 we started with the aim of supporting the establishment in Romania of a compliant food bank system, at European standards. This would allow for a more goal-oriented, efficient, and faster way to distribute food to those in need, nationwide. Our financial support supported the partner to optimally conduct its operational activity, to pick up daily food and distribute these quantities on the same day to the organizations that need it. In 2022 we worked to promote awareness of the interrelationship between shopping, food waste and social responsibility. Our goal was to support the sustainable development of the SINGLE FOOD BANK SYSTEM in Romania. In 2023 we committed to aligning with other stakeholders to ensure concrete ways to ensure regular financial support for the Federation, as well as a steady flow of necessary food products, in compliance with the laws and regulations in force regarding food safety. We donated approximately 516 tons of fast food collected from the PENNY network (144 partner stores and 4 logistics centers), representing almost 10% of the amount collected nationwide by the Regional Food Banks. Through this initiative, we also support the reduction of food waste, having a positive impact on the environment and society. The donated products reached the partner organizations of the Regional Food Banks at national level and implicitly the vulnerable people they care for: the elderly, people with disabilities, children without family care, victims of domestic violence, poor families, single-parent families, etc. We are a strategic partner of FBAR and continue the mission to actively contribute to reducing food losses and waste, by collecting surplus products and donating them to partner organizations that provide social, educational, recovery, hosting, and care services for people in vulnerable categories. In 2023, we joined the Food Collection Campaigns organized by FBAR, in the holiday season, during which we achieved the following results: z Easter Collection 2023: 67 participating stores where 951 kg of food were collected and donated to 49 partner NGOs caring for 3 304 vulnerable people z National Christmas Food Collection 2023: 361 participating stores where 40 716.96 kg of food was collected (representing 18% of the amount collected in the four participating store networks and an increase of 4,181% compared to the amount collected at the Easter edition in PENNY stores). The food was donated to 125 partner NGOs that take care of 31 562 vulnerable people. 836 volunteers participated in the collection. The largest amount was collected between 15th and 17th of December, when volunteers were present in stores.
