2024 Sustainability Report

TripleRO (3RO) We continue to work to achieve our ambitious goal of reaching 60% of the assortment on sale in PENNY stores to belong to the TripleRO (3RO) assortment: to have the main ingredient coming from Romania, i.e. to be grown, raised, extracted or manufactured in the country and to be processed and packaged in Romania. We continue to develop our TripleRO (3RO) assortment, which supports national producers through products whose main ingredient comes from Romania. At the end of 2024, the 3RO assortment on sale in PENNY stores was over 870 products. This initiative not only allows us to develop a sustainable portfolio for our customers, but also to support the national economy. Thus, under this umbrella, we continued our partnership with the Academy of Economic Studies, through which in 2024, together we conducted a study on the economic, social and environmental impact of the pig farming sector in Romania. The study, carried out within the 3RO project, analyzed the challenges and opportunities in this sector. The study aligns with Romania's strategic objectives to increase competitiveness and economic resilience, but also to meet consumer demand for local products. The results of this study show that the pig farming industry has been affected by African swine fever, domestic production does not cover demand, and Romania depends on imports. More details about this study can be found here. Another initiative carried out in 2024 was the creation of a listing guide for Farmers' Products in Retail. This guide has been developed to support Romanian farmers in preparing their products for retail listing, according to the specific requirements of the market. The guide addresses all product categories, from fresh vegetables and fruits to processed products such as cheeses, salami or packaged products. The guide is the result of the collaboration between the Romanian Farmers' Club and Retail companies, through the Agrinnovator Think Tank "Romanian Product". In 2024, we continued the collaboration with AHK, the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, organizing a round table dedicated to the theme "A common vision for the agri-food sector in Romania." This initiative brought together representatives of farmers, the food industry, the government and the private sector, with the aim of formulating proposals for sustainable public policies, thus promoting constructive dialogue and sustainable development strategies. More information on our 3RO initiatives can be read in last year's report or directly on our website.
