Eggs One of the strategic objectives of the REWE Group is the elimination of eggs from hens raised in batteries, to which we have taken steps to align ourselves since 2019. In our offer there are eggs labeled with code 2 (free-range hens) and code 0 (organically raised hens), but we intend to completely eliminate eggs labeled with code 3 (hens raised in batteries) from the assortment by the end of 2025. This decision underlines our commitment to promoting animal welfare and offering products that meet ethical standards to our customers. In 2024, 61.4% of the percentage of revenue collected from the sale of eggs was from egg categories that came from birds that were not raised in cages, 645% more than the previous year. We re-confirm our commitment aligned with that of the group that from 2026, we will no longer sell eggs from farms that raise poultry in batteries. However, it should be emphasized that an effective change of the system can only be achieved with everyone involved, starting with agriculture, from producers to processors and all associated sales channels, retail. Fresh meat We continue our efforts to highlight in front of our consumers the assortments from local brands and responsible farms. We are proud to announce that 100% of the meat products we offer in our stores are of Romanian origin. Starting with 2017, we have introduced in our assortment five types of fresh poultry meat (chicken, duck and turkey) from poultry slowly raised on farms located on the territory of Romania, thanks to the close collaboration with regional partners. We continue to develop and comply with rigorous standards for the Animal welfare of animals on production farms. The superior quality and freshness of Romanian meat are guaranteed through our partnerships with suppliers in Romania, who are certified according to IFS standards. We conduct unannounced inspections of production facilities to ensure that our high meat quality standards are always met. Careful monitoring of the thermal chain, from the moment of receipt in our warehouses to placing the products on the shelves of PENNY stores, ensures that optimal freshness is maintained and extends the shelf life of the products. To prevent interruption of the cold chain, we recommend customers to use thermal insulation bags for transporting products, which is especially important in the warm season. We also advise that once at home, the products should be stored immediately in the refrigerator and kept at the appropriate temperature until the moment of thermal preparation. These measures help to preserve the quality and food safety of products. In 2024 we continued the project aimed at the assortment of fresh pork, called Carne de la Origini. Within this project, we ensure good quality traceability as well as reducing the carbon footprint, by standardizing deliveries from 2 processors per warehouse. Suppliers are selected from the closest vicinity of our regional logistics centers. Although in 2024 the project was partially implemented, it used exclusively meat from Romania. Full implementation is planned for 2025.
