2024 Sustainability Report

2024 42 837 Total waste generated (tons) 2024 24 125 Total recycled waste (tons) 2024 18 712 Total waste disposed of (tons) Our team specialized in environmental protection, part of the Logistics department, rigorously deals with the management of the waste produced in our locations. We focus on reducing the amount of waste and focus on prevention and reduction initiatives, which contribute not only to protecting the environment, but also to optimizing operational expenses. In 2024, on our sites, we managed to recover 56% of the waste generated, while 44% was eliminated. Of the recovered waste, 90% was handed over to an authorized collector, thus ensuring adequate management and compliance with the legal regulations in force. The remaining 10% was delivered directly to a final recycler, thus contributing to the recycling process and reducing the environmental impact. Thus, we diverted a total of 24 125 tons of waste from disposal, of which 12 tons were directed to energy recovery. These processes reflect our ongoing commitment to improving waste management and adopting sustainable practices in our business. In order to track the evolution of waste quantities in a way that allows us to evaluate performance according to operational developments, we monitor specific waste quantities. Thus, we recorded an increase of approximately 8.43% in the quantities of non-hazardous waste**** generated per sales area. * The number includes municipal waste, which contains some amounts of food waste. Depending on the county in which the activity is carried out, different municipal waste treatment techniques are used locally. We do not have data on exactly how municipal waste is treated, and we cannot disclose how much of this waste stream has been diverted from the landfill. ** Hazardous waste includes waste such as lead-acid batteries, electrical and electronic equipment, sludge from oil/water separators, contaminated packaging, etc. *** "Other waste" includes types of waste generated on sites but not found in the entire PENNY network, such as: waste including materials that are not suitable for consumption or processing, waste from the construction of new stores, waste from sand extractors and other mixed packaging. **** In calculating the specific indicator for waste generation, the total amount of non-hazardous waste generated on PENNY sites was taken into account, compared to the average total sales area for 2024.
