Amount of non-hazardous waste generated per sales area (kg/m²) 2022 2023 2024 PROGRESS 2024/2023 132 133 131 -1.5% Within PENNY's operations, hazardous waste consists mainly of used electrical equipment, oils, batteries and accumulators, and fluorescent tubes. These materials are treated with special care and managed in accordance with current legislation, being collected by specialized companies for proper processing. With the aim of supporting education related to the circular economy and efficient waste management, we work together with specialist organizations and manufacturers to provide our customers with adequate facilities for the separate collection of different types of waste and encourage the selective collection of waste directly from the source. Therefore, this year we have continued the collection initiatives started in the previous year, including the campaign to recover consumed batteries, carried out in partnership with Ecotic BAT. We have thus promoted the selective collection and recycling of batteries, offering our customers one free AA battery for every 7 returned used batteries or 8 x 1.5V AA batteries for every kilogram of batteries consumed surrendered. Our activity involves compliance with the rules related to the extended responsibility of producers who place packaged products on the national market. In this context, we monitor the volume of packaging distributed by our company and ensure that it is recycled and properly recovered through two main methods: • working with an authorized organization managing extended producer responsibility to deal with packaging that becomes waste outside our premises (in particular primary packaging used for products intended for individual consumption by customers) • own actions, for the recycling of secondary and tertiary packaging, such as cardboard, plastic and wood, which become waste at our sites. As for the packaging put on the market, there is an increase in their intensity compared to 2024, by 11%.
