Food waste is one of the biggest challenges we face in the retail industry, having a direct impact on economic performance, operational efficiency and social responsibility. We take an active role in reducing it, aware of the implications it has on the entire supply chain and the urgent need to contribute to the fight against food insecurity. In 2024, we have focused our efforts on expanding the partnerships that allow us to prevent the generation of food waste, but also on identifying effective solutions to capitalize on it. We constantly monitor the evolution of waste quantities in order to be able to implement the best reduction and management measures. We maintain strict inventory planning and management procedures in warehouses and stores, carefully monitor shelf life and introduce products into the accelerated sales circuit, in order to avoid turning them into waste. Surplus food is redirected to food banks, and for products that are no longer suitable for human consumption, we have identified alternatives that significantly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Through these actions, we strengthen our commitment to sustainability and optimize our operational processes, actively contributing to a more responsible and efficient industry. In 2024 we have acted on two main directions to reduce the generation of food waste: • Managing food waste in operations, by applying AI-based forecasting and promoting products in the accelerated sales channel • Targeting surplus food by working with food banks At the same time, in order to increase the recovery of the quantities already transformed into waste, we have turned our attention to: • Expanding collaborations with biogas production facilities • Identifying new opportunities for valorization, such as processing for feed production.
