2024 Sustainability Report

Buildings Building development is a strategic priority for our company, directly contributing to achieving sustainability goals. Integrating them into our operational network allows us to expand our business with a reduced environmental impact, while offering economic benefits through lower operating costs. We apply the BREEAM in Use certified building concept in all new projects, aiming at energy efficiency, CONSERVATION OF RESOURCES and responsible waste management. These measures contribute to reducing the impact on the environment and creating an optimal space for occupants, with positive effects on productivity and satisfaction. When we build new stores or remodel existing stores, we pay close attention to solutions to improve energy efficiency and implement the latest solutions in the field for our store. When choosing the design and location of the building, we prioritize sustainable solutions, such as the use of renewable energy sources and choosing a location that is easily accessible by public transport or alternative modes of transport, such as bicycles, and offer charging facilities for customers' electric cars. We continue to expand our network of green buildings, all BREEAM certified. Thus, in 2024 we completed the certification of 37 buildings that were in the process of certification and we made an effort to obtain certifications for another 34 stores. Our buildings achieved the "excellent" score, which means more than 70% compliance with the requirements of the sustainable operational performance standard. For more information on our logistics warehouse in Filiași, which achieved the highest score in the world according to the BREEAM Outstanding standard, see our 2021 Sustainability Report, "Green Buildings" section. In 2024, we successfully completed the BREEAM In-Use Part 2 certification for 19 stores, of which 95% achieved the 'Excellent' rating, confirming the high performance in terms of operational management and sustainability in use. In parallel, we have started the certification process for 30 more locations, which are to be evaluated in the first part of 2025. BREEAM In-Use Part 2 focuses on the operational performance of the building in use, as opposed to Part 1, which assesses the physical characteristics of the construction. This integrated approach allows us to continuously monitor and improve the environmental impact of our portfolio. Recovery/disposal operation according to GEO 92/2021 Quantity in Kg R12 – handover for recovery in biogas plants 2 028.97 R12 – processing in feed 52.08 R3 – recovery in biogas plants 86.89 D10 – incineration without energy production 11.08 Due to the complexity of the product portfolio, the methodology involves a statistical approach, with the aim of tracking the progress of the measures implemented to manage food waste. We report the quantities and emissions of greenhouse gases to the annual turnover of REWE (Romania) S.R.L. in order to be able to follow the evolution of the food waste situation in the context of the company's evolution. Thus, the amount of food waste in relation to the turnover for food products decreased by 34% compared to 2020. The proportion of food waste avoided (through accelerated sales or donations to regional food banks) in relation to the turnover of those food products doubled compared to the previous year.
