IMPACT EXPLANATION The concept of green buildings highlights several main considerations concerning the construction and the operation. The considerations are space design, energy efficiency, and efficient water consumption, efficiency of maintenance resources, quality of internal building environments and the overall impact of the building on the environment. The main difference between the green buildings and the traditional buildings is the concept of integration. Whereas we pay attention to the responsible use of resources, the implementation and the development of green buildings concept in relation to our stores has been essential to us. Together with the reduction in the resources required for the operation of buildingsandthegenerationof anenvironmental benefit, we create a long-term advantage for our business – the operating costs per square meter are lower as compared to standard stores. The decision to build green stores is not just a simple option for PENNY, but a commitment to the next generations. In 2021, we continued our pioneering retail activity in Romania. We have developed our projects concerning the construction and the certification of green buildings. Green buildings HOWWE MANAGE THE IMPACT While a good design is essential for sustainable construction, the effective operation, the maintenance and the operation of the buildings also have very significant effects on the general impact on the environment and the buildings. In 2021, we decided to apply the concept of BREEAM in Use – certifiedsustainablebuilding toall newconstruction projects, in order to help us reduce the environmental impact. Also, we seek to improve our sustainability performance related to: z effective energy management z reduction of greenhouse gas emission z efficient water management z correct waste management z improvement of air quality z reduction of noise sources z effective lighting management z improvement ofwelfare and healthof our colleagues and customers OUR IMPACT AND PERFORMANCE IN FIGURES The BREEAM certification is a confirmation that our efforts are noticed. The assessed elements are applied in accordance with the needs of premises: from socio-cultural factors like access to appropriate public transport, access to charging stations to the architecture of natural lighting, the use of renewable energy, the non-use of fossil fuel for heating, the prevention of biodiversity loss by green areas, such as roofs or walls. PENNY Otopeni According to the BREEAM Awards 2021 competition, the PENNY Otopeni project is the most sustainable project in Central and Eastern Europe. The project of the PENNY store opened in 2019 obtained the highest score according to the last version of the standard, Outstanding, BREEAM International NewConstruction: 95.24%andhighest score in the world, BREEAM International In-Use v6: 99.4%.
