In the framework of our activity, the employees are involved in product and waste selection processes, and the failure to comply with internal procedures may adversely affect the quantities of waste generated and, not lastly, the disposal thereof or even the cost of subsequent treatment. Also, the misuse by the employees of energy-using equipment, installations, machines or vehicles can also give rise to potential adverse influences. Social Responsibility By our involvement in internal and external social projects, we contribute to the economic welfare of community stakeholders, either by our educational, environmental awareness, sport projects or by direct support provided to local communities. A developed and supported community will be able to choose with more confidence from the variety of local and regional products offered in our stores, thus having a positive impact on our business. By collaborating and supporting the NGOs which share the same values, we consolidate the community spirit and we extend the project coverage in order to have a positive social impact as wide as possible when it comes to beneficiaries from different territories or social environments. The stability and the development of our business depends on ensuring a high level of welfare to the communities in which we operate. Thanks to the CSR projects launched in the community (internal and external), in particular the environmental awareness projects (but not limited to), we contribute, directly or indirectly, to the reduction of environmental impact on local communities. Local Communities We provide financial support in areas like infrastructure, urbanisation and sport activities. This concern determines the creation of long-term partnerships which are beneficial for all parties involved. We are actively involved in sport, energy (electric charging stations, installations for the production of renewable energy), and green infrastructures (on buildings and not only). They bring multiple social benefits to beneficiaries from different communities. By developing green and energy infrastructures, we create the benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Throughout the development of specific projects, we are aware that we may have a possible adverse impact, but this is controlled through specific processes and procedures during the implementation phase. Education and Awareness Investment in the practical training of young people facilitates their integration on the labour market, and they also have the chance to become our colleagues. Thus, we create new jobs and new employment opportunities for the people who develop through the programs provided by us. We encourage dual education and provide support to low-income students through educational materials, scholarships, but also internship programs for professional development. Thus, we have a positive impact on the education and development of persons who have this need, therefore helping to increase their life quality. In order to make sustainability a principle widely adopted by the society, we need well-informed customers. Thus, the environmental concerns are and will continue to be integrated into procurement decisions. Our customers will be able to choose from a range of certified products labelled accordingly, and the buying decision will add value to the environment. Food Waste Management Food waste significantly contributes to cost increase, both for us, and for our customers and suppliers. This is the reason why we pay attention to our internal procurement, storage and handling procedures in order to significantly reduce product losses. Food waste is a subject of great interest at international level, as it has a negative impact on society by creating shortages to the disadvantaged population Our customers and employees are concerned by the reduction of food waste. By our internal processes, we try to use at maximum those hierarchical levels on perishable products, so that they do not become waste. Therefore, we collaborate with food banks and we donate non-expired food products, so that they can be safely used. Food waste that is not collected for composting is an important source of pollution. We manage perishable products through internal processes that comply with legislation. We are continuously working to reduce the amount of food waste through options to donate food to food banks or organizations that recycle food waste into biogas.
