Health and Safety at Work The safety of our colleagues is a very important topic for us. We comply with the specific national legislation and the corporate requirements concerning health and safety at work (HSW). The health and safety of both our workers, and employees of external collaborators is ensured by PENNY Romania by entering into partnerships with all providers. These partnerships establish the obligations of each party, and the conditions according to which a provider's worker may be granted access to REWE premises in order to carry out the delegated activity. These measures include the HSW/SU at the entry into the REWE premises, the mandatory use of certain equipment only with the agreement of the beneficiary, the mandatory use of individual protective equipment provided by the employer (the equipment has to be appropriate for the risks implied by the worker's activity, but also for the risks related to the place of work), the obligation to hold the qualification and the authorisations required for carrying out the activity and the mandatory use of certain work equipment, if required by the law. We assess the risks andwe are careful to provide a safeworking place to our employees. We have internal procedures by which we mitigate the risks of occupational accidents, injuries or illnesses. We have set up a Committee for Health and Safety at Work whose composition changes anytime necessary and, also, every two years, when the employee representatives are elected. The internal Prevention and Protection Service aims to internally assess the risks related to health and safety at work in respect of all work titles and positions of the organisation and to ensure the best conditions for the work process, the defence of life, physical and psychological integrity, the preservation of worker's health or of other persons taking part in the work process. Moreover, in order to prevent the illness of our employees, we have maintained high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the stores. The measures implemented in this respect are periodically assessed both internally and externally. Also, we have ensured the appropriate information of our employees, based on recommendationsmade by the Romanian Health Ministry, the Robert Koch Institute and the World Health Organisation. In 2021, the training concerning the prevention and the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 infection have become standard, and are presented at the time of recruitment and periodically. The employees are trained periodically, according to the annual training themes and to the workplace risks. Throughout 2021, the standard trainings were performed: at the time of recruitment (general introductive training and training at the workplace), quarterly (HSW) and monthly (SU), periodical training. Also, additional regular trainings were performed in the case of persons returning to work after more than 30 days (returns following parental leave, returns following medical leave), but also in the case of victims of work incidents. Generally, the training topics have an annual recurrence and concerns the health and safety at work instructions for each title, as well as for the equipment used or the specific activities carried out. In 2021, we registered 30 unfortunate workplace incidents, compared to 21 in the previous year, 23 of them were caused to REWE Group's own employees, and the remaining incidents were generated by collaborators of the company. 19 of them occurred during work, and 4 of them on the way from the domicile address to the workplace or vice versa. Most of the events occurred throughout the performance of the activity were caused by the misuse of work equipment by the victims or other workers. Also, in 2021, the number of lost days increased by reference to 2020 (443 versus 242), and the increase is due to the seriousness of accidents, in particular road accidents. No cases of occupational illnesses or deaths that can be attributable to risks or dangers at the workplace were registered. All these events were found and investigated by mixed investigation committees, composed of both representatives of the provider (in the case of victims outside the group), and representatives of REWE România. Following the events and the investigation carried out, the investigation reports were processed together with the workers of the place of business and those employed in the same position as the victim, the workers were retrained in respect of the own HSW instructions not complied with in each of the cases, the workers involved in the work incidents investigated were additionally trained. 2020 2021 Number of occupational accidents 21 30 Number of occupational accidents women 10 10 Number of occupational accidents men 11 20 Number of days of occupational accident-related medical leave 242 443 CONTENT ABOUT PENNY SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY SUSTAINABILITY STEP BY STEP SUSTAINABLE ASSORTMENT ENERGY, CLIMATE AND RESOURCES EMPLOYEES AND SOCIETY REPORT ASSURANCE GRI & SASB INDEX
