Food waste management IMPACT EXPLANATION We are aware that food waste is one of the most important global issues with a negative impact on society and environment. Food retail companies play an important part in the management of this topic, due to the role played in the distribution and the selling of these products. The reduction of food waste is a moral obligation, as well as a legal one. OUR IMPACT AND PERFORMANCE IN FIGURES In 2021, both the international and local teams responsible for implementing the food waste reduction plan have developed specific measures. Thus, by analysing the causes and challenges that appear throughout the supply chain, we have identified four areas of action: z We reduce food waste in the framework of our operations! z Wedirect the surplus food to charitableorganisations! z We shift away the foods which are no longer appropriate for human consumption! z We educate the consumer! HOWWE MANAGE THE IMPACT We make sustained efforts to reduce the amount of food that can become waste, by planning the stocks in our stores and warehouses as efficiently as possible, through the system of discounts offered in the store, through collaborations with food banks as well as by trying to identify alternatives so that food that is no longer suitable for human consumption does not end up in landfills. We continuously invest human and financial resources to reduce the amount of food wasted, from suppliers to our warehouses and from our stores to customers.
