For this campaign, a particular container was created and set up in stores for selective collection of these specific Tetra Pack packages. z Canpack România – intelligent devices for returning aluminium packaging. A campaign run together with Canpack Romania since 2017. Since we started the collaboration, we managed to collect together, on average, approximately 2000 kg/year. Currently, there are intelligent aluminium packaging collection devices installed in 13 shops. z Capace cu suflet / Caps with soul – 1 ton of caps collected in 2021 in 32 PENNY stores partners. The corks are later ordered to be transported to recycling centres and revalued through the sale. The obtained sums are completed through donations/ sponsorships, and finally, the Caps with Soul Association redirects the money received towards various humanitarian cases. 8.04% Shopping bags 18.88% Fresh products 38.68% Refreshments 7.15% Meat and cold cuts 2021 Plastic imprint of own brand product packaging (%) More sustainable packaging for our customers Contributing to sustainable production in Romania, we will add value to reducing the quantities of materials used for packaging the products available on the shelf. Being closer to production areas, we will reduce energy consumption for transport. However, wewill also be able to influence in different directions, frommaterial substitution in the production of packaging, when choosing the type of material used, or even disposal of inks or chemicals used in their production. All these aspects support the production of products with a lower carbon footprint. We continue to apply the 3R strategy – reduce, reuse, recycle, through which we encourage responsible packaging management. We analyse each type of packaging and search to identify the most sustainable options, either by reducing the amount of plastic or the package size. z All bags in our stores have been replaced with environmentally friendly, 100% compostable, obtained from raw plant materials. z Conventional bags for fruits and vegetables have been replaced by some biodegradable ones made based on biopolymers and corn starch. z We have already started using recycled PET water packaging and want to expand this to soft drinks. Our target is that by the end of 2025, all primary and secondary packaging from paper and cardboard will be made from FSC-certified materials.
